Open Evenings Announced For New Middlesbrough School

A new school proposed for Central Middlesbrough has announced two open evenings where parents of prospective students can go and learn more about the new school.

Outwood Academy Riverside was announced after the Department for Education approved an application from Outwood Grange Academies Trust for an 11 to 16 academy, based in the Middlehaven area of Middlesbrough, which is due to open in September 2020. The academy will provide the local community with the benefits of a new state-of-the-art building.

The open evenings will take place on 23rd and 30th September, at The Riverside Stadium, home of Middlesbrough FC.

The events will begin at 5:30pm and give the parents of current Year 6 children the opportunity to meet a range of staff from Outwood and discuss the education they could provide their children.

Alex Howe, who is an established Principal within Outwood and recently announced as Principal designate of Outwood Academy Riverside, said: “We are really excited about our upcoming Year 6 open evenings. They provide a fantastic opportunity for us to get out into the community and meet with the parents of prospective students.

“At Outwood, we always work hard to put students first, raise standards and transform lives. We are excited to continue this at Outwood Academy Riverside and work with the local authority and local community to help children reach their full potential.”

Outwood is a well-established education provider within the North East already having been ranked as one of the highest performing trusts in the region. The Trust already sponsors six secondary schools in the Teesside region, led by Executive Principal Mark Hassack, who is also a National Leader of Education.

Both Alex and Mark have been previously praised by Ofsted for their leadership of Outwood Academy Ormesby. In its report following the most recent inspection of the school, Ofsted said: “The executive principal and associate principal have only one agenda and that is to transform the life chances of the pupils in their care. They are bringing about change and improvement successfully, and at remarkable speed.”
