Success For OA City Fields Students In Wakefield LA Stop Hate Competition

Students from Outwood Academy City Fields in Wakefield have been successful in a competition promoted by Wakefield’s Safer Together Partnership.

The competition was part of the Partnership’s campaign to support National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

The students from Outwood Academy City Fields, based on Warmfield View, joined children from across the area in designing posters with the message ‘Stop hate, be a mate’, the name of the campaign.

The designs were judged by the Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Charles Keith and Cllr Maureen Cummings, with the winning poster, designed by a student from Highfields School, being used by the Council in the upcoming campaign.

Outwood Academy City Fields student, Arieba Naeem was a runner-up in the competition and was rewarded with a £75 voucher.

Other students from the Warmfield View-based academy who received £10 vouchers in prizes for their poster designs were: Kasandra Mirga; Victoria Blacker; Alexsandra Bukova; Robert Wright; Arisha Aslam; Fasiha Zaman.

Michelle Colledge-Smith, Principal at Outwood Academy City Fields, said: “We are so proud of our students for showing their community spirit and getting involved in this competition. They have done brilliantly and the recognition their designs received is well-deserved.”

The Partnership’s campaign, called ‘Stop hate, be a mate’, looks at the effects hate crime has on people, how to get support and report incidents, and what everyone can do to make Wakefield a friendly and supportive place to be.
