Working at Outwood - Aisha Carter
My name is Aisha Carter and I am currently a trainee Assistant Finance Manager for Outwood.
What apprenticeship are you currently undertaking?
Level 7 Accountancy Professional CIMA with Kaplan
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I chose the apprenticeship route as It provides hands on experience, and career progression opportunities. What CPD opportunities have you been involved with?
Not only am I able to join online classes for my apprenticeship within my 20% off the job learning, but I am also able to build upon my core skills by joining a range of development days such as excel training, problem solving and many more to choose from. I have been given a range of new responsibilities and opportunities that have enabled me to think outside of the box, ask why things are done a certain way, and the confidence to challenge the right people.
I have recently had the experience of tutoring 2 new Finance assistants which is all very exciting and a great learning experience for me.What are your highlights at Outwood?
A highlight of mine would be progressing from Finance assistant to Trainee Assistant Finance Manager during my apprenticeship, it’s a huge confidence boost and almost as if I have a brand new perspective on things. It's a nice reminder of how far I have come since starting as an apprentice. What would you say to someone wanting to pursue an apprenticeship/what advice would you give?
Do it! I think it’s the best route, it helped me better understand the theory taught in classes as I’m able to apply it to my job and support others. There’s definitely no such thing as a right or wrong question, I should know, I’ve asked my fair share. Mistakes are meant to happen, it's all part of the learning experience, so just enjoy it as much as you can.How are you being supported?
I feel very lucky and grateful for the amount of support I have received during my time at Outwood even prior to my apprenticeship. Everyone around me is always willing to help, I'm always learning new things from different people, and receiving useful feedback. I also know a few other apprentices at Outwood and were all so encouraging of each other, especially around exam time.
