Working at Outwood - Ashley Taylor
My name is Ashley Taylor, Head of History at Outwood Academy Hemsworth and I’ve been part of the Outwood Family for three years.
What do you find most rewarding about working for Outwood?
I think the most rewarding thing is that you know you’re working with others who genuinely care. The Outwood Family cares about the students and they care about their staff and I trust every decision they make as I know that the students are at the centre of all decision-making.
There’s also a culture of support here. Having the 'open door' policy, where staff can drop in, means that you never feel isolated from the rest of the school, no matter what point you are in your career.
There are clear routines and structures in place to support you with classroom management, and it is consistent across Outwood Family. This ensures positive conversations with students, and drives success. I have also been given multiple opportunities to progress in my career whilst being supported in doing so, and I am very grateful for this.
What is one of the highlights of your time with Outwood?
The ultimate highlight is seeing the students everyday improve in confidence, and equipping them with the tools to succeed way into the future! It’s a cheesy answer I know, but it truly is an amazing feeling just knowing that you are making a positive difference.
