Working at Outwood - Ben Agar
Hi, I am Ben Agar, Teacher of English at Outwood Academy Valley and I’ve been here at Outwood since 2013.
What do you find most rewarding about working for Outwood?
It has to be seeing every minute aspect of a student's life being considered when trying to help them develop as young adults.
Knowing that members of the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Departments and any other member of staff passing is willing to step in to assist with delivery of lessons or issues that have arisen is of great comfort to me.
What CPD opportunities have you been involved with so far?
At Outwood, there are regular and varied opportunities to develop as a member of staff and I’ve enjoyed making the most of these opportunities. I think the Deeps roles being the most pertinent for most Outwood Family staff to develop.
I have been encouraged to mentor Initial Teacher Trainees and have done so for five years now. This has been incredibly rewarding as I believe the Outwood Family has provided training of the highest quality that works intrinsically with university-based CPD training.
What is one of the highlights of your time with Outwood?
In 2017, I led the school ski trip to Altenmarkt, Austria, and to see the students thrive in a completely different environment was very special. Many had never been to a mountainous region like that before and to see their reaction and appreciation of the experience was very motivating.
