Working at Outwood - Matt Taylor

My name is Matt Taylor and I am Assistant Principal at Outwood Academy Hindley.

I have been at Outwood Academy Hindley for around five months now, since the start of the academic year in September 2021. So I’ve been working closely with Outwood as Hindley High School prepared for our conversion to Outwood Academy Hindley in January 2022.

What do you find most rewarding about working for Outwood?

The most rewarding thing about working at Outwood is the genuine belief that students must be at the centre of everything we do and that every decision is made with students at the forefront of our minds.

Students First isn’t just a statement, it is lived and breathed throughout the whole Outwood Family. When I first heard about the Outwood vision of Students First and hadn’t quite expected how vast it truly is, for example to truly do the best for our students, Outwood invests in us, the staff. There are tremendous opportunities for all people and the professional development programmes with Outwood are outstanding.

What CPD opportunities have you been involved with so far?

My first one was the Transforming Senior Leaders, which is an excellent course provided by the Outwood executive leadership. This constantly gives you the opportunity to reflect on your role as a senior leader and ensure you can progress professionally but also continue to raise standards for all students.

I have also been enrolled in the NPQ for Leading Behaviour and Culture for a February 2022 start and I am very excited for it.

What is one of the highlights of your time with Outwood?

In a way I feel lucky that I have been here at Outwood Academy Hindley during its conversion to an academy because it’s been great, both personally and professionally, to witness and be a part of the transformation of the school.

Our young people in Hindley deserve to attend an amazing school, and the Outwood Family are supporting all staff to unlock the potential of our fantastic school and its students.
