Outwood Family Marks Remembrance Day
Across the Outwood Family, Remembrance Events have taken place to mark the 100th Armistice Day since World War One and to commemorate all those who died in conflict.
The events culminated with each academy respectfully falling silent on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. 2019 marks the centenary of the first two-minute silence held a year after the end of World War One.
Martyn Oliver, Chief Executive of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, said: “Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day are very important for everyone at the Outwood Family. It is a time for us to thank and remember those who gave so much in the service of peace.
“Children and students from across the Trust have been taking part in events and laying wreaths in their local communities to mark Remembrance Day and to remember those who lost their lives in conflict.”
Inside academies across the Trust, display boards have been changed to incorporate the poppy design and information about the meaning of the poppy, alongside details of those local to the respective academy who fought in the two World Wars.
Some Highlights
On Remembrance Day, both students and staff at Outwood Grange Academy, around 2500 people, came together for a Remembrance Day Parade on the academy’s astro turf. Following The Last Post, The Exhortation was then read before the two-minute silence was perfectly observed.
At Outwood Academy Valley, a performance was put on by students for a special Remembrance Assembly. Tickets were made available to parents and carers to purchase on the door with all proceeds being donated to The Royal British Legion.
In North Yorkshire, children from Outwood Primary Academy Greystone in Ripon represented the children of the city at the Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph in the Spa Garden. The children laid three wreaths on behalf of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, the British Army, and the British Air Force.
Across the Trust, all students who are cadets were invited to attend school for their day in their cadet uniform.
