Outwood Academy Carlton Provide Sound Recordings For Production Of ‘Kes’

Students from a secondary academy in Barnsley have been invited to contribute to the production of ‘Kes’ at the Perth Theatre in Scotland.

The students from Outwood Academy Carlton were approached by a member of the theatre sound production team at Perth Theatre to record the hymn used in the 1969 film, as well as a recitation of the Lord’s Prayer.

The Royston Lane-based academy has links to the original film, with Kes being set in Barnsley and filming taking place at one of the schools that merged to become Outwood Academy Carlton. 

Paul Haynes, Principal at Outwood Academy Carlton, said: “We were honoured to be asked by Perth Theatre to record the hymn and Lord’s Prayer for the production. The students were delighted when they were informed why these recordings were needed and where they were going to be used.

“As an academy, we enjoyed a strong connection with Barry Hines, the author of the book ‘A Kestrel for a Knave,’ on which the Ken Loach ‘Kes’ film is based. Barry visited the academy several times prior to his sad passing in 2016.”

The production of Kes, along with the sound recordings by the students at Outwood Academy Carlton, is currently on at the Perth Theatre in Scotland, with run due to last until 16 November.
