OA Valley's Cake And Bake Treats Help Raise Hundreds For MacMillan Cancer Support

Staff at a secondary school based in Worksop have been busy baking up treats as part of a fundraising drive for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Outwood Academy Valley, based on Valley Road, held its very own Great British Bake Off style competition to get staff involved with all proceeds going towards the national cancer charity.

The delicious bakes by the staff members were judged and donations made which led to the school managing to raise over £250.

Highlights included some white chocolate and raspberry cupcakes, which came with their own ‘messy’ warning, a chocolate Shrek cake, and loaded chocolate tiffin.

However the winning entry of homemade honeycomb and chocolate swiss meringue cupcakes, baked by Star Baker was Rebecca Hobbs, Business Manager at the school.

Emma Ferrarelli, Associate Vice Principal at the Ofsted-rated Outstanding Outwood Academy Valley, said:

“It is a truly sad fact that most of us will know someone who is either battling cancer currently, or has been diagnosed with it in the past.

“We wanted to do something which helped us to remember and recognise family, friends and colleagues who have been affected by cancer and in the process raise money for a truly remarkable charity that does such brilliant work helping people.”

MacMillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. It also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care.
