OA Shafton recognised for Physical Education
Outwood Academy Shafton have been awarded the prestigious Association for Physical Education (afPE) Quality Mark with Distinction, for demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity.
The validator highlighted that ‘Students clearly demonstrate positive behaviours and excellent attitudes towards physical education’ and noted that the school has ‘Effective implementation of provision through very high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.’
The school was also praised for its ‘extensive range of activities provided for students both within and outside the curriculum.’
Michael Jepps, Head of PE, commented:
“We’re really proud to receive the quality mark from the Association for Physical Education, we set out to achieve the award after attending the annual conference a couple of years ago. It has been a reflective and beneficial process, during which we have made significant improvements to our PE curriculum.
“The recognition is a reward for the hard work and commitment shown by the staff in the PE department. I'm also grateful for our supportive Senior Leadership Team who have enabled PE, school sport and physical activity to be a priority for our students’ health and wellbeing.”
The afPE is the PE Subject Association in the UK, which was officially launched at the House of Parliament in March 2006. Their purpose is to promote and maintain high standards and safe practice in all aspects and at all levels of physical education, school sport and physical activity, influencing developments at national and local levels that will impact on pupils’ physical health and emotional well-being.
Outwood Academy Shafton will hold the afPE Quality Mark for three years.
