Local Teacher Serves King and Country in King’s Coronation Parade
Jessica Horsley, Teacher of Science and Army Reserve from Outwood Academy Carlton served King and Country in The King’s coronation parade on Saturday 6th May. After the weekend celebrations, Miss Horsley attended school dressed in her uniform to inspire students and answer any questions they had.
Joining the army in November 2015 when she was 25, Jessica served with the 5th Regiment of the Royal Artillery until September 2020, when she left to pursue a career in teaching. After five years of service, Jessica chose to move into teaching for a new challenge but continues to serve as an army reservist.
When units were asked to volunteer for the coronation parade, Jessica put her name forward and was lucky enough to be one of six reservists from the Artillery to be selected to participate. She then underwent three weeks of rehearsals to ensure that everything was precise and primed for the coronation day, stating:
“It was a long, hard three weeks but it was worth every minute. It was an amazing experience and I am so grateful for the opportunity.”
When asked about being part of such a historical event, Jessica added:
“To be part of the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla was a great privilege, a phenomenal experience and one of the proudest career highlights I have had”.
