 Working at Outwood - Olivia Vaughan

My name is Olivia Vaughan and I am currently a HR Assistant for Outwood.

What apprenticeship are you currently undertaking?

I'm currently undertaking a Level 5 HR Consultant Partner apprenticeship.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I think it's really great to be able to implement what you're learning in your day to day role. Getting some hands on experience helps to better understand the theory and know how to apply it. It's a lot better than just learning out of a book.

What CPD opportunities have you been involved with?

Since joining the apprenticeship my Manager has been making the effort to put me in situations that help me develop ,such as job shadowing and getting involved in higher level projects, though I haven't been on any specific courses besides the CIPD course.

What are your highlights at Outwood?

One of the best things about Outwood is the amazing team I get to work with. It's great to be surrounded by people who support each other, value our opinions and always make themselves available to help others.

What would you say to someone wanting to pursue an apprenticeship/what advice would you give?

I would say that it's an amazing opportunity to not only grow your skills and employability but also to grow and develop as a person. It is however important to maintain frequent communication with your manager to make sure you are getting the time and support you need to take part in your studying.

How are you being supported?

I've received an amazing level of support all throughout my time at Outwood. Communication is key between colleagues and my manager has been great at listening to my views, stepping in if I say that I am overwhelmed and recognising my achievements at times when I may not. I also have colleagues I can go to for advice and guidance for both my work and my studies.
