Local Wakefield Primary School Wins National Award

A primary school from Wakefield has been praised and recognised for its recent progress at a national awards ceremony in London.

Outwood Primary Academy Ledger Lane, based on Ledger Lane in Wakefield, won the ‘Outstanding Progress’ Award at the Education Business Awards, held at the Leonardo Royal Hotel London St Paul’s.

The Education Business Awards recognise schools from across the UK for improving the standard of education and the life chances of their students. The primary academy, which was recently rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in all five areas, picked up the Outstanding Progress Award, sponsored by Fun and Active Playgrounds Ltd.

The Awards state that this award is ‘presented to the UK Primary School that has made outstanding progress in the management of its facilities, finances, and human resources and can demonstrate an increase in the educational performance of the school.’

Rachael Skirrow, Principal at Outwood Primary Academy Ledger Lane, said: “We are beyond delighted to have won this award. I am thrilled that the staff’s hard work  and their commitment to putting children first, raising standards and transforming lives has been recognised.

“The Education Business Awards have a well-established reputation for showcasing the success stories and examples of operational excellence in the UK education system.

“We will use this award as a source of encouragement as we continue our efforts and ensure we keep working hard to achieve our vision and ensure every child gets the best possible education.”

The Awards, which were sponsored by Schools Advisory Service, recognise operational excellence in 24 categories and were presented by TV presenter, Angellica Bell.
