Outwood Family Celebrates Students’ Success

Following the 2020 A-level results day, the Outwood Family is celebrating the success of its students, who in the face of uncertainty brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic showed a brilliant spirit and determination to keep going.

There were highlights across the Outwood Family, from Outwood Academy (OA) Hemsworth improving its results at all measures, to Outwood Post 16 Centre Worksop seeing 99.1% of students achieving an A Level pass grade.

The Outwood Family’s overall pass rate was 98.4%, however the most special highlights are those individual stories of the amazing students who are now looking forward to pursuing their studies at university.

Julie Slater, Chief Executive (Secondary) at the Outwood Family, said:

“We are so proud of the attitude our students showed throughout this unprecedented time and we want to make sure we mark their success.

“At Outwood, we believe in putting students first, raising standards and transforming lives and we sincerely believe we are a family. Which is why we will miss the 2019-2020 Year 13s and wish them every success in the future. We will always be here for them should they ever need any help or guidance.”

At OA Easingwold, this year’s results were from the first cohort to combine students from both OA Easingwold and OA Ripon and there were some brilliant success stories including two students now off to Oxford.

Juliet Telfer achieved three A* grades and will study Physics, while Josh Salvin will read medicine at the University of Oxford after receiving A*, A and A.

OA Hemsworth produced some fantastic family results day memories with two sets of twins completing their studies.

Ben and Joshua Thompson are off to Staffordshire University together, while Josh and Cameron Glynn will also head off to university but will be going solo. Josh, who achieved A,A and B will be going to Bolton University to study Special Effects for Film and Television, while Cameron is going to Sheffield Hallam University to study Physics.

Josh said that he was excited to ‘finally go on to do what I have always wanted, making monsters and movies,’ while Cameron reflected that he had ‘come a long way from the top hat and cane, now on to new horizons doing Physics at Sheffield Hallam.’

Ellieann Clark achieved three A’s and will now head off to Keele University to study Medicine and said she was ‘over the moon with my results and I can now go on to follow my dream of becoming a doctor.’

At the Outwood Post 16 Centre Worksop, major highlights included two students now going off to the University of Oxford and one student going to the University of Cambridge.

Georgia Fields, who achieved three A’s, is going to study Chemistry and Anelia Simpson, who also got three A’s, to study Biochemistry (Molecular and Cellular) at Oxford, while Madison Allardyce gained a place to study History at Cambridge.

Lauren Emmens, who also achieved three A’s, gained a place at University of St Andrews to study Chemistry.

Another highlight from the P16 Centre Worksop is that four students have been successful in gaining a place in the Armed Forces. Daniel Hardlow is joining the Royal Air Force (Cyber Safe Communications) as is Sara Smith (Medic). Students Archie Law is joining the Royal Navy and Ethan Warner is joining the Army.

At OA Newbold, in the first year of the school’s Football & Education Programme, in partnership with Chesterfield Football Club, there was particular success for Luke Hobson, Dalton Cooper, Corey Butcher-Simpson and Kian White.
