OPA Newstead Green Land Prestigious Design and Technology Mark Award

Outwood Primary Academy Newstead Green has been awarded the Design and Technology Mark by the Design and Technology Association. The award is a quality mark awarded to secondary departments and primary schools who are providing excellent teaching and learning in Design and Technology.

Children at OPA Newstead Green, based on Cow Lane in Wakefield, were presented with their award on 19th October by Ryan Ball, Director of Education for the Design and Technology Association.

The Design and Technology Mark is a quality mark awarded to secondary departments and primary schools who are providing excellent teaching and learning in Design and Technology to promote higher standards in the quality of design education. It is awarded to schools who can demonstrate they fully meet all the descriptors in the Self Review Framework and who have undertaken a rigorous evaluation process and can clearly demonstrate the quality of their work across:

  • Curriculum planning

  • Teaching and learning

  • Leadership and capacity and 

  • Resources and safety

OPA Newstead Green joins a select number of qualifying schools from around the country who have met the criteria and the rigorous evaluation process including; Secondary Schools - Shirelands Collegiate Academy in Smethwick and Highgate School in London and Primary schools - Valley Community School in Bolton and Callands Community Primary School in Warrington. 

Mrs Lindsey Corbett, Principal of Outwood Primary Academy Newstead Green ,said:

“We are extremely proud to have received the Design and Technology Mark, which recognises the excellence of our D&T curriculum as well as the hard work of our staff, children and whole school community.  We are among an elite number of 3 other primary schools who have received this award.  The knowledge and skills of our children are truly inspirational and we are thrilled this has been recognised nationally.

I must also mention the work of Mrs Emma Hudson and Mr David Andrews who have led this amazing journey from its outset, by supporting us to design a curriculum with vision and along with the D&T Quality Mark Standards have ensured that through the process defining our intent; rigorous implementation and careful monitoring of impact, we have been able to ensure first class provision for our children – the designers of the future.”
