MP for Outwood and Morley Visits Outwood Grange Academy

Students at a secondary school in Wakefield have met with local MP, Andrea Jenkyns as the MP for Outwood and Morley visited the Outwood Grange Academy, in Outwood.

The MP visited the school, which is rated Outstanding by Ofsted, to meet with Mr Highnett. Director of Post 16  to discuss ways in which the students can get involved with politics and business.

Sheriden Hutchinson-Jones, Principal at the Potovens-Lane based Outwood Grange Academy, said:

“We were delighted to welcome Ms Jenkyns MP to our school and it was brilliant to discuss how students can engage with their local MP and to plan for future partnership working, particularly around setting up a new Student Parliament. 

“At Outwood we believe in putting students first, to raise standards and transform lives. We want to ensure all our students can fulfil their potential and feel inspired, and we believe meeting key local figures, like Ms Jenkyns MP, helps us to achieve this aim.”

During her visit to the academy, the MP for Outwood and Morley also discussed how post-16 students could get involved with the local business community as they look to forge their own careers following their time in education.

Ms Jenkyns MP said: “"t was great to see the energy and enthusiasm from Mrs Hutchinson-Jones and the Director of Post 16, Mr Highnett. 

“I am really looking forward to what 2022 will bring for Outwood Grange. Politics is being introduced back on the A Level curriculum, I will welcome a selection of students on a visit to the Parliamentary estate and the school will be helping with careers for all students."
