OA Valley Students Receive Special Performance Of Romeo And Juliet
Students at a secondary academy in Worksop have been treated to a performance from the Box Clever Theatre at their school.
A specially staged version of Romeo and Juliet was performed at Outwood Academy Valley, based on Valley Road, as part of the theatre company’s work in schools to try and get young people engaged in theatre.
Last year, Box Clever, an award-winning, writer-led theatre company dedicated to the creation of contemporary theatre for young people, performed to 57,419 young people and accompanying adults in 200 Schools and seven venues, giving 269 performances and 220 workshops.
As part of the workshop, Year 11 students at the school were able to learn more about the different career options available to them within the Arts, in addition to developing their own performance skills.
Dave Cavill, Principal at Outwood Academy Valley, said:
“We were delighted to welcome Box Clever and their brilliant actors to our school. It was obvious that the students were fully engaged throughout both the performance and the workshop.
“At Outwood, we believe in putting students first and supporting them to fulfil their potential, and for us this commitment goes beyond the classroom. We want to ensure our students leave us as well-rounded citizens, who believe they can do anything they want to if they set their mind to it. Working with groups like Box Clever help us to achieve this aim.”
In line with the theme of Romeo and Juliet, the students workshop event based around the theme of fate and free will. It involved the students exploring whether the tragic events in the play were caused by decisions the character themselves made, or whether they were dictated by things beyond their control.
