OA Ormesby Teams Up With Charities To Help Students

A secondary school in Middlesbrough has teamed up with a number of national charities to help support students.

Outwood Academy Ormesby, based on Tothill Avenue in Netherfields, held an event on Thursday, 27th January, for students and their parents which focused on supporting young people with their emotional wellbeing.

As part of the event, representatives from MIND, the national mental health charity, gave a presentation highlighting ways in which parents can also support their children. In addition to MIND, those in attendance also had the opportunity to talk with people from Kooth, My Sisters Place, Brook and Headstart to learn more about supporting the emotional wellbeing of young people.

Toni WIlden, Head of School at Outwood Academy Ormesby, said:

“We are thankful to all those who attended from the charities, we were very lucky to have so many great causes represented here. It really did give those in attendance a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how best to support their children with their wellbeing.

“At Outwood, we always want to put students first and for us, this commitment goes beyond the classroom. We want our students to fulfil their potential and we will do all we can to support them in achieving this aim. This event is just one example of how we try to do this.”

Sam Bryson , who presented at the event for MIND, said: “We are grateful to Outwood Academy Ormesby for allowing us to work with them on this important event and within the Academy as a whole.

“We are committed to making sure that everyone experiencing a mental health problem can access the support they need and is treated with the respect they deserve.”

Sarah Bland, a parent present at the evening said: “It was a good hour which gave me lots of things to think about in terms of how the academy can help my child now and in the future”

Toni added:

“We intend to hold a number of events like this as part of our community work. Each event will have a different theme, but the underlying theme of working together to support each other will be present.”
