MP for Bassetlaw Visits OA Portland

Students at a secondary school in Worksop have met with local MP, Brendan Clarke-Smith as the MP for Bassetlaw visited the Outwood Academy Portland.

The MP visited the school, which is rated Outstanding by Ofsted, to meet with staff and students to learn more about the school’s work.

Danielle Sheehan, Principal at the Netherton-Road based secondary school, said:

“We were delighted to welcome Mr Clarke-Smith MP to our school and it was brilliant to discuss how students can engage with their local MP and to give him a tour of the school.

“At Outwood we believe in putting students first, to raise standards and transform lives. We want to ensure all our students can fulfil their potential and feel inspired, and we believe meeting key local figures, like their local MP, helps us to achieve this aim.”

During his visit to the academy, the MP for Bassetlaw also discussed the school’s plans for the future, including working even closer with the local community.

Writing on Twitter, the MP said: “Enjoyed visiting Outwood Academy Portland today. Hugely appreciative of the fantastic job Outwood do in our community and was hugely impressed with the plans for the future and to meet our new head Mrs Sheehan.”
