Outwood Family Launches New Menopause Guidance

A leading family of schools has launched a new menopause policy and guidance to ensure staff are informed on the subject and supported through it.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust has worked with staff and unions to develop the policy and produce the ‘Let’s Talk’ guidance.

A spokesperson for the Outwood Family said:

“For every ten women experiencing menopausal symptoms, six report that it has a negative impact on their work. With the right support, there’s no need for women to press pause on their career during this natural transition.

“We will be holding training with staff across our schools to ensure people feel comfortable discussing this with colleagues, so we can give the right support at the right time to those who need it.”

The Let’s Talk guidance encourages staff to:

L - Look for support and help

E - Encourage openness and support

T - Talk about the menopause, it can help to understand symptoms

S - Share information about support

T - Tell your line manager/HR/Business Manager if you are struggling

A - Ask your line manager/HR/Business Manager for a risk assessment

L - Look at adjustments and/or to the work environment.

K - Keep an open mind and be flexible.
