Parliament visit for primary school children

Outwood Grange Academies Trust pupils have visited the Houses of Parliament as part of a School Parliament programme.

Each of the 13 Primary Academies across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, has its own school parliament with representatives being elected annually by the pupils. The Prime Ministers and their deputies visited London to learn more about the workings of Parliament and hold their annual End of Year Summit.

Lee Wilson, Chief Executive Primary at Outwood Grange Academies Trust, said:

“Our annual visit to Westminster Palace is a real highlight for us. Our children, through work in their own Academy Parliaments, have developed a strong understanding of democracy. As academy Prime Ministers and Deputy Prime Ministers, these children have made a real difference to their own schools - it is great for them to be able to see where this happens on a national level.”

The children were given a tour of Westminster Palace, including Westminster Hall, the Robing Room and both chambers of Parliament - the House of Lords and the House of Commons. They were also lucky enough to see the magnificent, gilded coronation coach currently on display to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III.

After the tour, each primary academy’s Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister gave a joint presentation to the rest of the group. Presentations were focused on the impact that their student parliaments had during the academic year with each academy reflecting on one initiative that they led and were most proud of.
