Local primary school recognised for its dedication to sports
Outwood Primary Academy Littleworth Grange has achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.
Carlene Farmer, Teacher at the school, said:
“We’re delighted to have been recognised for our hard work in promoting physical activity and healthy competition. We believe that sport and physical education play a vital role in the development of children, not only in terms of physical health but also in building confidence, teamwork, and resilience.”
As part of the accreditation process, the school had to evidence its work in a range of areas, including participation, competition, workforce and clubs. The school has competed in football tournaments for Years 3,4,5 and 6, as well as an athletics tournament for Years 4 and 5, participated in the Biggest Ever Girls’ School Football session run by The Football Association and entered into the Hit The Ground Running programme for primary schools in South and West Yorkshire.
