Outwood Academy Normanby Teams Up With Bistro To Help Out Families
A local secondary academy has teamed up with a North Yorkshire bistro, and other businesses, to help provide meals for families during the half-term holiday.
Outwood Academy Normanby, based on Normanby Road, South Bank, have worked with contemporary Stokesley-based bistro, The Truffled Hog, to provide 60 family meals to those who would have been entitled to free school meals during term-time.
As well as donations from customers and other businesses in the area, the joint effort will see over 150 children and 100 adults from the Outwood Academy Normanby community being fed.
Andrew Wappat, Principal at Outwood Academy Normanby which opened in 2019, said:
“We are thrilled that we have been able to work with members of the local business community to help provide some of our students and their families with some support during this half-term break.
“We are aware of the issues some of our families are facing and at Outwood we believe in playing a key role in the communities we are so proud to serve. This is just another example of this.
“The issue of free school meals is a hot topic right now with Marcus Rashford’s campaign firmly in the media spotlight and we felt it only appropriate to act in any way we could to help support our Outwood Family.”
The bistro’s efforts have not just been limited to Outwood Academy Normanby, with the team also putting together meals for local primary school, St Gabriel’s Primary in Ormesby.
Laura Hall, owner of The Truffled Hog, said: “My Mum works at Outwood Academy Normanby and through my discussions with her we came up with this plan to help out.
“At times like this, we all need to be looking out for each other and I am just proud of how the local business community came together to support this initiative so we could help those who need it this autumn.”
